Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expidition

Early on the 26th June Tom Swift and myself set of on the car journey up to the Pennines where we would be carrying out our practice Gold Duke of Edinburgh expidtion. On arrival there was a short ice breaker between cadets from different cadets forces, the Air Training Corps, Cadet Combined Corps and the Army Cadet Force.

Shortly after we set of on our first day to be greeted by a challenging ascent which would be nothing compared to the second days climbs. The misty weather really put our navigational skills to the test having to practice walking set distances on bearings due to the poor visibility.

The second days was a bit more challenging with the development of some blisters but we marched on till late in the evening, some of us not returning till after 9pm. However the challenge was met with great enthusiamsm by all the cadets who gelled together with no hassel. A good team effort brought every one to the end on the sunday after noon and depite a bit of a mix up with the finishing point we all eventualy sat down to de-brief and discuss what had worked well and what had not gone so well.

The expedition was a good test and thoroughly enjoyed by both members from 2418 (Sherwood) Squadron who now look forward to the final expedition in Baveria at the end of August.
