Promotion Joy for Sherwood Cadet

2418 (Sherwood) Squadron, Air Training Corps, would like to congratulate the promotion of one of their most experienced Cadets to the rank of Sergeant.

Sgt Daniel Grant (17) of Redhill 6th Form College received a field promotion from Flt Lt Thompson whilst on annual camp at DTE Swynnerton to fill a vacant Flight Commanders position. Daniel's temporary promotion, from corporal, saw him take charge of a group of 20 Cadets of all ages and ability from various squadrons from the South & East Midlands Wing.

Commenting on his temporary promotion, Sgt Grant said "It can be difficult adjusting to a new role when at Squadron but to take on this role at a Wing camp, attended by 261 cadets, was a nerve racking experience. Once I got in to it, my confidence grew and overall it was a great experience."

On hearing how well Daniel performed on camp, Flight Lieutenant Donna Bates, 2418 Squadron Commanding Officer, made the promotion permanent and awarded Daniel his sergeant stripes on return from Swynnerton camp on Tuesday 2nd June 2009. Flt Lt Donna Bates said "Daniel has been a member of the squadron since January 2006 and it was an absolute pleasure in awarding him his sergeant stripes. All at 2418 Squadron wish him well in his new role."
