2418 Sherwood Squadron Narrowly Miss Out

2418 (Sherwood) Squadron narrowly missed out in a top 3 finish having come fourth overall in this year’s Wing Cross Country event.

The annual competition took place at a very windy and muddy Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire on Sunday 15th November 2009. The final South & East Midlands Wing event of the year saw 2418 (Sherwood) Squadron compete against 28 other squadrons from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.

The cross country event consists of five different age categories; boys, youths and junior men for the males and girls and junior women events for the females. The course itself consists of a combination of a muddy field, dirt tracks, a riverside footpath and the hill of death.

The weeks of training the Cadets took prior to the event paid off as 2418 Squadron finished in the top half in every category. Final position results for 2418 Squadron were as follows:

Commenting on the day's event, Warrant Officer Martin Bates said; The Cadets put a lot of effort in over the past few weeks in preparation for today’s event and they have done their squadron proud by going out there and putting their all in. Everyone who ran should be very proud of themselves.
