Reading Half-Marathon

Staff and Cadet's from 2418 Squadron spent the weekend of 28th & 29th March 2009 in Reading to help out at the annual Reading half-Marathon. This has become an annual event for the Squadron with this being our sixth year in attendance. It was an early rise for us all on the Saturday morning. We left Squadron at 0900 in order to make a good start before the roads got busy, we arrived at our destination at around 1130. Accommodation for the weekend was a local Scout hut. Having unpacked and settled in we all headed into Reading town centre for a spot of shopping and a feed. It was an early night for us all as we had a 0530 rise.

We arrived at the Madejski Stadium at 0630 and spend the next few hours getting the medals and finishing packs ready for those participating. The race began with the fun run followed by the wheelchair race and the half marathon. The Cadets were tasked with the job of removing the timing chips off the participants which wasn't the most glamorous job in the world as most of the participants had the timing chip around their ankles. After the last participant crossed the finish line we helped tidy up the start/finish line before heading back to Nottingham.
