Battle of Britain Service

On Sunday 15th September, members of 2418 Sherwood Squadron accompanied members of the Royal British Legion to St Mary’s Church for a service to remember those who fought in the Battle of Britain. The day consisted of forming the guard of honour for the congregation, followed by a service and forming the guard of honour is once more for the congregation to leave the church. The service consisted of hymns in the memory of those who served.

The battle of Britain, which took place from July to October in 1940, is one of the most if not the most significant contribution the RAF gave to World War 2. Winston Churchill famously once said, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much by so many to so few”, referring to the ongoing efforts of the Royal Air Force crews who were at the time fighting the Battle of Britain. The pilots who fought in the battle have been known as The Few ever since.
